Catch-up

It has been a busy 10 days for us. Layton had his 2 month booster shots, going as well as can be expected. No major reactions, only 10 minutes of crying and little knots at injection site. Good thing we have another 2 months to gear up for the next round.

Last weekend we made our first overnight visit back to Woodston to see my parents and grandparents. Layton did so good! He slept through the night both Friday and Saturday (a new trend!!). Great-Grandpa Alvin and Great-Grandma Venda really enjoying having Layton as an overnight guest (us too), they loved holding him and watching him stretch, kick, grow and play. Grandpa Larry and Grandma BJ enjoyed showing Layton off at the Pheasants Forever Banquet (he even slept through the auction) and showing him around the farm on his first visit, even the dogs liked him. The trip was successful and went so much better than anticipated, Layton is a wonderful baby!

This weekend is fairly quiet. Today I spring cleaned house while Evan and Layton went to visit Grandma Cheri. This afternoon we folded the mountain of laundry, gave Layton a bath, and plan to spend the evening in together. We debated going out for dinner and having Grandma babysit, but it started raining....we might melt!! Tomorrow we have an Easter basket for Layton and will spend the day with Grandma Cheri.

Monday is back to the normal routine. Next week one evening we will go visit and take dinner to our friends Randy, Ty, and meet their little girl Kinsley she is a week old today. Layton's class now has 2 boys and 2 girls.

Have a Happy Easter!

April 1

We had our 2 month well baby check-up Monday, Layton now weighs 12 lbs 8 0z (75%) and is 22 3/4 inches tall (50%), our Dr was happy with his growth, personality, and overall well being. He is so full of personality and talkative (for a 9 1/2 week old).We are now working each night on additional tummy time to encourage arm use and pushing his chest off the floor. Layton is starting to sleep longer at night, we consistently go from 8 pm - 3:30 and a few nights he has stretched until 5:00 am! Yeah!!

This weekend we are embarking on our first overnight adventure with Layton. We are heading back to Woodston to visit Grandpa / Grandma and Great-Grandpa / Great-Grandma. It will be the first time since Day 2 Grandpa Larry has seen Layton, he is in for a surprise. Several weeks ago I began "The List" - all the items we would need / want / might need / might want for a weekend away, wow it keeps growing (plus we all know how the weather in KS will change 3-5 times in 1 day!). It might be easier to get Layton is own portable living quarter.

Hopefully we will get to see some friends this weekend at the Pheasants Forever banquet in Stockton, it will be Layton's first "big" outing since the baby shower in February.

More next week on how the first weekend away is and how portable crib sleeping is.

Back to Work

Sigh...Maternity leave is over. Layton and I started our newest routine on Monday; daycare and work. So far so good! Our morning routine starts about 5:10 with a shower, blow dry, makeup, breakfast for Mom by 5:40 when Dad gets Layton up for breakfast (we are still nursing several times a day and pumping in between) and ready for the day. We spend about 15 minutes every morning as a family, which is my FAVORITE time of the day, Layton is all smiles, giggles, coos and cuteness; then he naps on the way to daycare.

Work has been wonderful, it is great to be back and catch up is going well (thank goodness for good back-ups). I love the challenges of the communications industry, sales, and marketing, everyday is something new. My very wise boss advised me to work half days Mon-Wed this week then full days Thurs - Fri - it was the very very best advice ever. The half days have allowed me to ramp back up to working, Layton getting used to the babysitter, and the babysitter getting used to us.

We have no major plans for the weekend, laundry and family time are the headlining events.

Have a great rest of the week!

Monday, March 2

Today was wonderful! It was a beautiful day out, sunny 68 degrees and no wind. Layton and I took a walk and it was nice to be out of the house in the fresh air. The rest of the day we cleaned out clothes closets putting away maternity clothes, sorting out others for Saks on Broadway (Several empty hangers now need to be filled.....), procrastinated writing thank yous (after the flu last week it is hard to motivate), checked email, updated our blog, and played (on the tummy turtle, reading, shaking rattles, kicking, giggling, the normal 5 week old play). It was a busy maternity leave Monday, only one more to go before I start back to work.

I am gearing up to go back to work, excited, hestitant, and anxious as I love Layton and my job. Finding the balance of family and work will be the next career challenge to face. We have a wonderful sitter lined up, Layton will be with her and her almost 2 year old, we went over there last week to visit and all should go well. The team I work for is very family oriented.

This past weekend Evan's Uncle Larry and Aunt Patty visited from Greeley and we sold the rest of Grandma's household stuff at a neighboring auction. It was hard work to get everything boxed up, loaded and delivered, thank goodness for family and 3 high schoolers. The auction went well and Evan came home with some new farm machinery.

This weekend my best friend from college Jenny is coming for a visit. She is the last round of 3 weeks of visitors. It has been so nice to see our very best friends (Darin and Megan came for the shower two weekends ago) in the past month since Layton was born.
